As part of my recent tour to France and Spain I had the good fortune to meet and jam with some of the musical greats:
Ben Waters (Piano) – Ben is recognised as one of the UK’s supreme boogie piano players and has worked with The Rolling Stones, Ray Davies, Chuck Berry, Jools Holland, Jerry Lee Lewis, Shakin’ Stevens, Screaming Lord Sutch, PJ Harvey, Amy Macdonald, Bobby Womack, Mick Hucknall, Charlie Watts, The Ronnie Wood Band, Paul Weller, Dave Gilmore, Dave Stewart, The Teenagers, Nine Below Zero….and the list keeps growing!
Sam Kelly (Drummer) – Sam is currently drumming with Cymande, Ben Waters, Geoff Achison and the UK Souldiggers, Ma Bessie and her Blues Troupe, Papa George Band, Giles Hedley and the Aviators and Connie Lush. Early in 2008, Sam went into the studio to record the rhythm tracks for the late great, Gary Moore’s last R&B album, ‘Bad For you Baby’. He also joined Gary’s band for a 10-date tour in Germany. Sam’s long career covers live gigs, festivals, drum workshops, theatre work, radio and TV sessions, both in the UK and overseas. He has been voted into Blues In Britain magazine Gallery of the Greats, as a five-times winner of the ‘UK Drummer of the Year’ award. In 2014 Sam was awarded first place in the “Drummer” category for Blues Matters Writer’s Poll and runner-up in the British Blues Awards 2016. Combining his years of experience and his reputation within the UK blues fraternity, Sam is a highly accessible, sought after drummer.
Ian Jennings (Bass) – Ian was a co-founding member of The Big Town Playboys who now works as a freelance double bassist/ bass guitarist with loads of different bands …. his CV includes live work and record sessions with Carl Perkins, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Billy Lee Riley, Champion Jack Dupree, Jools Holland, Lowell Fulsom, Roscoe Gordon, Andy Fairweather Low, Tom Jones, Willie Littlefield, Van Morrison, Lisa Mills, Mick Fleetwood, Paul Rogers, Buffalo Squeeze, Chrissie Hynde, Sophisticated Savage, Jimmy Page, Scotty Moore, Lulu, DJ Fontana, Ronnie Wood, Jimmy Copley, Eric Clapton, and Mark Knopfler …. that’s enough for now as the Duke of Edinburgh told him “it’s a red card to name drop”.
Dave Kelly (Guitarist & Composer) – Dave is a British blues singer, guitarist and composer, who has been active on the British blues music scene since the 1960s. He has performed with the John Dummer Blues Band, Tramp, The Blues Band, and his own Dave Kelly Band. Dave, however is probably best known for the thirty odd years he has spent with Paul Jones (Manfred Mann) and The Blues Band, where his guitar and vocals form the very backbone of their distinctive sound.
